 Music is an integral part of our worship at First Congregational UCC. Our liturgies include both hymns and service music. Our choir sings twice during each service. Once in support of the biblical message of the day and again while the offering is collected. Our Music Director, Jim Winfield, is a masterful choir director. Our choir members often express their gratitude for how he has improved their singing. Our congregation is quite sure God is pleased by the variety of Jim's musical choices and the quality of the choir's presentations.
The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings for 90 minutes. Singers from the congregation are augmented by a few professional musicians. The varied music sung by the choir for Sunday worship includes, in addition to "traditional" classical music, spirituals, contemporary Christian selections, world sacred music from many continents, folk music and more. The choir is heard several times a year in special cantatas for Advent and Lent, and occaisonally in concerts outside the Sunday worship services. |
