Mr. Winfield's talent is most obvious during our two yearly cantatas, one during Advent and the other during Lent. These events are musical extravaganzas expressing our faith, gratitude and dependence upon the Triune God. Jim is often able to bring in instrumentalists to support the choir in these efforts to express our praise to God.

Streaming sample from the cantata:
On Sunday April 5th, Palm Sunday, the adult choir with 16 member chamber orchestra led by James Winfield performed a newly written (2007) composition by Joseph Martin titled The Weeping Tree in a Cantata at the 10AM Service.
This composition was accompanied by strings, woodwinds and percussion in beautiful, meditative style especially appropriate for Holy Week. Along with the music there were special iconic emblems of the Passion Story the weeping tree (cross), the robe, the crown of thorns, the nails all integrated into the music and narration of the Cantata
This performance marked the beginning of Passion Week events in this combined worship service arranged by Rev. Richard Mangnall, Pastor and Jim Winfield, Music Director.
The entire performance was recorded, and a CD will be available for a donation.
The Music Department of First Congregational Church hopes this April 5th performance provided inspiration and peace to all who heard it and is a blessing during this Lenten Season.
