Rev. Richard J. Mangnall came to First Congregational UCC in October of 2006 after almost 25 years of ministry in Indiana and Chicago's South Suburbs.
Pastor Rick received his call to ministry while teaching mathematics at Barrington High School. His desire to faithfully follow Christ's call, led him to Eden Seminary in St. Louis MO where he received his Master of Divinity degree in 1982.
He was ordained on June 27, 1982 at Trinity UCC in Mulberry IN, a church he pastored until 1987. His next call was to St. Mark UCC in Chicago Heights where he served for 18 years. Then after doing some interim work at Salem UCC in Oak Lawn, Pastor Rick was called to the pulpit of First Congregational UCC, Elmhurst
"I am particularly pleased that God has called me to serve this congregation," says Pastor Rick. "As a graduate of Elmhurst College, I feel quite comfortable living in this community again. But what really makes me feel at home is the people with whom I serve. The staff is extremely talented and the congregation is deeply committed. Together, we are quickly becoming a force for Jesus Christ in our community."
Rev. Mangnall believes that diversity is one of the greatest gifts God has given to humanity. Having grown up in California, lived in Germany as an exchange student, served in rural Indiana and raised his children in a racially integrated congregation in Chicago Heights, he has seen first hand the powerfully positive influence the coming together of diverse opinions has on one's faith. So, no matter where you are on life's journey, our congregation and its pastor are ready to welcome you just as you are.
