St. John United Church of Christ, our sister church in the inner-city of Chicago, provides a spiritual home to a small congregation, but serves many more in the community thorough a variety of programs that assist youth, the physically disabled and those involved in Alcoholics Anonymous. First Congregational UCC supports St. John's ministry with our donations of clothing and household items for their monthly rummage sale, along with direct financial support. We also support their community wide Thanksgiving Day Turkey Dinner by donating turkeys and by volunteering to help out as cooks, carvers and servers. St. John celebrated their 125th anniversary in 2007 and several members of our congregation helped make it special by creating and printing a souvenir booklet for those attending the ceremony.
