what we do

Our worship is both traditional and contemporary. We are rooted in the traditions of our faith but seek fresh and creative expressions for today.

First Congregational has a rich legacy of mission work. We respond to God’s call to know and love our brothers and sisters in our community and around the world.

Every group at First Congregational is different and unique. Some share a meal or study a book, but the main goal is to share a life together, serve and draw closer through care, connection, and events.

We are individuals with hopes, dreams, questions, and fears.  We are stressed-out parents trying to lead lives that express our values.  We are children needing positive connections to form our life’s foundation. We are friends holding steady through each other’s peaks and valleys.  We are a community of imperfect people following the teachings of Christ.

We are called to act as Global Citizens, aware of the ways we are connected to all of God’s Creation.  We intentionally seek to nurture the light of God within and share it in a complex world that needs healing. We believe God’s love is inclusive and unconditional.

We believe in Christ and Christ’s work of redemption and reconciliation in every generation. This is why we are committed to listening for God’s “still speaking” voice for our lives and in the world today. No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here. We believe in extravagant welcome and our communion table is open to all who seek to know God’s grace and Christ’s presence. We advocate justice for all including the environment and believe the church’s mission changes lives.

In it Together: Discovering the Art of Blessing One Another in Friendship and Community

Join us for a conversation on how to strengthen and deepen our friendships and relationships. In the fragment, frenzied world we share, a meaningful connection can be rare and the gift of presence feels elusive. Discover how to strengthen our connections with God and one another as we discuss what it truly means to be blessed and practice the art of blessing one another.

Tracey Bianchi is a local pastor at Christ Church of Oak Brook and a freelance writer and speaker. She is the author of four books and numerous articles. She speaks at events across the country but makes her home in Elmhurst, IL. We hope that you and a friend can come out for a delightful evening of appetizers, great company, and conversation.

Join us again this year as we march in the Elmhurst Memorial Day Parade. The parade will step off at 9:30 on Monday, May 28. We’ll need lots of marchers to help us pick up recyclables from parade goers, pass out milk weed seeds, share with families news of our upcoming De Colores Program and escort our Clutterbug down the street. It’s a great way to start the holiday. We will be gathering near York and Third Streets at 9:00 a.m.
